Carina Balbo

Managing Director

With a passion for languages and a commitment to education, Carina has embarked on a remarkable journey. From the early days, her fascination with languages guided her towards a degree in Translation and Teaching English as a Foreign Language at the prestigious National University of Córdoba, Argentina. In parallel, Carina wore multiple hats, balancing freelance translation work with her role as a dedicated English and English Literature teacher, as well as an assistant lecturer at the National University of Córdoba.

In 2002, Carina made the UK her new home and dove headfirst into full-time freelance translation work while pursuing her MA in Applied Linguistics & TESOL at the University of Leicester. Her academic pursuits culminated in a dissertation on Bilingualism. Later, she achieved an MA (Merit) in Management from the London Metropolitan University, focusing her dissertation on Total Quality Management in Secondary Schools.

Armed with 25 years of invaluable experience in translation and foreign language teaching, Carina co-founded My Language Hub, a highly regarded language service company driven by a vision to dismantle language barriers and facilitate global connections.

Carina's impressive list of credentials includes being a Certified Localisation Professional, a Fellow Member of The Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), a Chartered Linguist specialising in Translation and Education, and former CIOL Council member. Her dedication to the field also extended to serving as a Council member and Treasurer of the Association of Translation Companies (ATC), of which My Language Hub is an Accredited Member. She's a passionate mentor, guiding fellow linguists on their career paths.

Carina's expertise in language assessment has led her to author a textbook designed to prepare students for the IGCSE exam in First Language Spanish. Fueling her dual passion for translation and language teaching, she has crafted Foundations of Translation and Mastery of Translation, two comprehensive training programs for linguists and language professionals seeking to pivot into the translation and interpreting profession and gain a recognised qualification.

Carina firmly believes that foreign language skills are pivotal in today's global market, advocating for their early introduction in schools with a focus on fostering enjoyment rather than mere attainment. Her journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to breaking down language barriers and empowering others to thrive in an interconnected world.
